How to Deal with Last-Minute Photography Clients

Accommodate if the schedule allows

  • If you have an opening, then I don’t see a problem with booking the gig.

  • However, it’s I find it incredibly disrespectful that they’re calling me last minute

  • There’s a ton of new added stress so the following is going to happen:

Charge a Rush-fee

  • Price sensitivity

  • Cobb Value Curve

  • Cash up front.

  • You have no rapport, you have no trust built up.

  • You will screw yourself if you do this wedding without 100% upfront cash.

  • YOU WILL DO NOTHING UNTIL THAT MONEY IS CLEARED AND ON THE WAY TO YOUR BANK ACCOUNT.

  • Your time is valuable

If you’re not available, find a trusted freelancer or recommend a friend

  • Be careful when referring to your friend.

  • Good friends don’t send over shitty referrals.

  • I’ve had plenty of folks send me crap referrals with a paragraph-long forewarning about how bad the client is.

    • If they’re that bad, then please don’t send them my way

Politely Decline

  • The client is clearly going to be a handful and cause you unnecessary stress.

  • If this is how they treat you during the production process, then how do you expect post-production will go? Do you think they’ll be on time with their notes and sending you the final payment?
