Last week was the first time that I formally directed a tommysTV produciton. It was my designated episode of our mini-doc series: the Digital Craftsmen Series. I directed the piece about Chad Schoonmaker, an abstract painter, and I was nervous about the entire project. However, all the nerves dissolved away once I got on set. Preparation was key in this scenario. I wanted to get my first reactions down as quickly as possible. Enjoy! Don't forget to record your journey as you go along. The filmmaking process is complex but at the heart of it simple: tell a compelling story.  What resonates the hardest is visual storytelling. The ability to create an emotion or convey an idea through an image is what drives my career as a filmmaker. My marathon mentality is focused on becoming the best cinematographer possible.
