Your Instagram Profile Will Plummet (Eventually)
More and more are photographers saying that Instagram has become a full-time job.
More and more are photographers saying that Instagram has become a full-time job. Every single day you edit your photos, write out a caption, and share at the exact right time. Not to mention Stories, and linking to the right place in your bio.
“Instagram is a monster.”
“Instagram has become a full-time job.”
“I’m putting more in, than I’m getting out.”
And just to make things worse, followers and overall engagement has slowly started to decline. It’s a sad fact, but we have seen this take place before.
Did you ever have a Facebook Business Page?
Remember when your local cupcake bakery pushed you to like their Page on Facebook?
Remember how much attention business owners were able to get? Over 70% of their audience was able to see their post!
Now, what’s the number? Less than 10%? Less than 5%?
Instagram is following the same model.
Let me say - the platform isn’t dwindling. Instagram alone generated $20 Billion for Facebook.
But like Facebook Business Pages, we are started to see higher and higher saturation of accounts and users. This is Facebook’s model - acquire half the planet on their app and THEN start monetizing. Facebook Business Pages when they saw their engagement dip started “boosting” their posts and buying more ads.

What can you do?
As a photographer, where maybe over 60% of your leads come from Instagram, what can you do?
Pay to play. If you want more people to see more of your work, then pay Facebook to serve up your content. Facebook knows - like your Facebook Business Page - that you’ve over-invested and you don’t have any other options that you can use in the short-term.
Sure, you could switch to a new app or start a new social account, but that’ll take time, and you’ll likely see a dip in inquiries.
This is where it helps to stay agile with your brand and be ready to adapt to a new and changing marketing landscape.
