Hi photographers 👋,
I love gear as much as you do. The gear is such a fun rabbit hole to nerd-out on, and we love talking shop with fellow photographers.
Your Awkward Question at the Wedding…
“Hey bro, sweet camera! Is that the Sony a7siii with the Sigma 35mm f1.8?”
The one holding the camera either agrees enthusiastically, or rolls their eyes and fakes a grin. We’ve been victim and perpetrator to this scenario.
Why Do We Like Photography Gear?
We are what we purchase comes to mind.
It’s a bit of a status symbol to some - others an entire personality.
When we’re young in the game, we see “pro-level” gear as our path to success. We start to think limiting thoughts like “Once I get the Canon 5D mk4 (or whatever the latest model is), THEN I’ll be a pro - or be able to charge more.”
We are shelving either our confidence, our skills (or both) in hopes that a new camera will bring us success - it won’t.
Most any camera will do.
Deal with it.
