Hi photographers 👋,
Why do waiters always start their introductions by telling you about their specials?
Sure, you’d like to skip it to avoid the awkward smiling and fake head-nodding but what if they told you something else?
Their Specials Are Discounted From the Get
Minus the financial side-lesson, restaurant specials are poorer quality and are discounted.
Waiters start your customer experience by telling you about their old, sad lumpy fish that’s on sale. (Read: Don’t Discount Your Services)
Gross.
So what should they be talking about?
And what does this have to do with photography?
Anchoring.
Much the same way Costco displays those big ass TVs on your way to buy your drum of Nutella - restaurants should start the interaction with a BANG!
We cannot ignore the first price that we are told (even when told to ignore it).
Sell the Steak - literally.
Waiters should tell you about the $180 Tomahawk steak and mention the price tag with it.
There’s probably a 1% chance that you’ll order it, but now when you look at their overpriced nachos for $45, you feel delighted to have found such a deal.
Anchoring. Say the big price first no matter how ridiculous you think you sound.
And avoid selling poor, old fish soup that’s on-sale as your 1st Impression.
Cheers,
Jordan P. Anderson
