The ONLY stats you should watch on YouTube (if you want to grow)
Many of you have asked me, "What about YouTube analytics?"
Hey friends,
Jordan P. Anderson here.
Many of you have started YouTube channels.
And many of you have asked me:
What about YouTube analytics?
Here’s the answer:
What No Longer Matters…
Subscribers don’t matter.
It’s a legacy metric and a false indicator of your business.
A startup with "150,000 subscribers" tells me nothing about their revenue or customer base.
I’ve worked with massive social media accounts and some of them can’t sell a single product.
Before we dive in - delete YouTube Studio off your phone.
It is the biggest distraction for budding YouTube channels.
Look at your analytics - of course.
But you don’t need it on your phone with instant access 24/7.
And remember:
Being good at stats and analytics doesn’t make you better at YouTube.
For Noobs (Under 15K Subs)
If you don’t have anything going or you’re under 15,000 subs, I wouldn’t get caught up in stats.
You’re in habit-building mode.
Your brain is going to create every excuse why you shouldn’t do this.
Push through - it’s your nervous system adapting. Day 1 at the gym is hard too.
Your sole focus should be habit building.
Focus on:
Comments
What questions people are asking
Effort
Habit
Reps
For 15K and Up
Welcome to YouTube.
You’ve got an established channel.
(Remember - subscribers don’t matter, but it’s an easier way to categorize the tiers of YouTube.)
Comments are still #1 because you still need to listen to your audience.
But now that you have enough impressions, you can start to tweak the CTR by changing the title and thumbnail. Title and thumbnail are what your non-viewers see, so we need to bring them into our video with something that piques intrigue.
Next is your YouTube funnel’s performance.
At this point, you should have your YouTube funnel in place, with your top two links collecting emails and converting purchases.
Are you getting email optins and at what rate?
Focus on:
Comments
CTR: Title and Thumbnail optimization (because you need eyeballs - YouTube is giving you decent impressions, now it’s up to you to convert those would-be viewers)
Email opt-ins
AVD (Average View Duration) - The longer people watch, the longer they stay on YouTube, which is good
For 50K and Up
At 15K subs, you can have a full-time income with YouTube as your traffic source.
At 50K, you have a legitimate, full-on business.
Again, email optins and purchases are your North Star. Make sure you’re tracking YouTube traffic with either UTM tags or with a completely unique page just for YouTube.
And then again, it’s CTR and Average View Duration. How many people are clicking through and how long are they watching?
Focus on:
Email opt-ins
CTR
AVD
Speaking of email opt-ins - what kind of emails are you sending to your customers?
