Many (if not all of my clients) know way more about their industry than I can ever hope to.
So what can I offer them?
Courage.
Many of us know exactly what needs to be done in order to improve our businesses. And even if we don't know the specifics, we at least know that something has to be done. My job is to help them summon the courage to take the Unknown step.
Our primary function is to challenge safe-thinking and inactivity.
Another point of value is to quell the fear. Fear of the unknown keeps many businesses in the same lane because it's familiar. Some are only a baby step away from a complete revolution in their business.
Recently had a conversation with a flower shop in San Diego (they asked to anonymous) who mainly serviced weddings. They made the switch to online deliveries only and the owner tells me that she just had the most profitable month in her business than pre-COVID. Had she stayed the course, and gone with the familiar day-to-day, her fears would have been a self-fulfilling prophecy.
A parting quote from the late, great Neil Peart:
"If you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice."
