Do photographers (of all people) really need to send out newsletters?
The Do's and Don'ts of Email Newsletter Marketing
Maybe you’re convinced that a newsletter is right for your photographer business. Awesome!
Here are the do’s and don’ts:
Newsletter Do’s
Tell me something I didn’t know or realize
Create special, private, and unique value that I can’t get anywhere else
Send more than 12 per year.
Newsletter Don’ts
Send your newsletter as a monthly brochure
Only use newsletters for sales/conversion/CTAs (Looking at you Lightroom Presets)
Make it an Instagram gallery - (that’s what Instagram is for.)
Your photography clients are in love with your work. Make them fall in love with your thoughts and perspective too. Find some creative ways to send newsletters that are more than a simple sales promotion. Newsletters aren’t part of the sales process - they’re part of the customer delight process.
Don’t be discouraged when you send out your first few newsletters. Set a realistic expectation for yourself, but also set the expectation with your audience. Please respect this last sacred place we have as audience members - our inbox.
I hope this list of do’s and don’ts is an inspiration rather than a hindrance. Sending emails regularly is a beautiful way to connect.
