TLDR
I spent 250+ hours building my Webflow
Then, I forgot how to use Webflow
Realize that sending traffic to a homepage is too much friction
Created my Typedream site
Simplified everything
Stopped putting my dreams into building a blog/checkout/portfolio
Turned my homepage into a hub
Sorry Webflow...
The launch of Webflow a few years had me brimming with excitement.
Finally, a website builder that gives me the power of an elite web designer without the constant hand-holding. Platforms like Squarespace were constantly putting up walls to my creativity, so I jumped ship the first chance I could.
And now…I’m jumping ship again.
Hello Typedream
Cut to a year later with Webflow - I haven’t logged into the site in months.
However, I thought that was completely normal. You spend 100-200 hours upfront building your site, and then coast for the rest of the time afterwards. But my coasting meant that I was slowly forgetting how to use one of the most powerful web builders on the planet.
Finally one day...I had completely forgotten how to use Webflow.
But as you know, I’m a HUGE Notion fan and I stumbled upon Typedream.
Typedream offered the website building experience that uses Notion hotkeys and commands. This blew my mind. I’m in Notion every day, so this meant that no matter what, I would never forget how to use the hotkeys.
Plus, I’ve changed the way I think about websites.
Websites Aren’t Really a Thing Anymore.
Sending traffic from social media to your site is one on the biggest friction points to overcome in your business.
Many business owners simply drop their shoulder and try to ram past this friction. I’ve taken a different approach...
I ask (and I’m not a pioneer in thinking this)...
“If the friction is so great, why fight it?”
What is so valuable and magical about getting folks to my homepage?
Nothing.
If I’m going to tear people away from their favorite social media platforms and into a Safari browser, it’s going to be onto a sales page with checkout features.
My Website offers none of that.
Which is Why I Don’t Care About Visitors
Here’s the strategy part:
Yes, I’m excited to switch over to Typedream - a simple website builder where I can create a simple website.
But that’s it.
I’m not looking to make this site, my golden goose.
I’m not going to shove a bunch of plugins to this site to turn it into a checkout/blog/funnel/portfolio.
Instead, the Typedream site (https://jordanpanderson.com) is simply a train station - a hub to get where you want to go. It’s only one page, and I deleted the blog.
Now...instead of running around tinkering on my site, I can focus on...
Delivering great content,
Creating awesome products and courses, and
Growing and learning alongside you and the rest of this awesome community.
Cheers,
Jordan P. Anderson
