👋 3 Things The Bachelorette Can Teach Us About Becoming Better Filmmakers...
Michelle has taught us a lot this season…
How do the Bachelorette contestants stay chiseled and jacked at all times?
Anytime those dudes flex by taking off their shirts, I go, "How and the f*ck are these dudes so jacked?" Then it dawns on me - the obvious answer.
And no, it's not WHAT they're doing, but HOW they're doing it.
Here's How...
💼 Make It Your Job
I've almost completely given up on Instagram, but my wife will send me DMs of posts on a daily basis.
One type of post that'll I see on her newsfeed are fitness babes with the rubber straps around their knees doing some sort of sideways crab walk. The chicks (and bros) are leaned out, and my wife will yell out, "How are they able to look so good?"
Easy. It's their job.
You go to that Fitspo's Bio...boom. Fitness Coach. Personal Trainer.
Every day that IG chick is in the gym, she's constantly around people working out. And obviously, she's posting about it every single day.
Her 9-5 is 100% FITNESS.
If you want to get good at a skill or engrain a new habit - make it your job.
🪞 Make It Your Identity
Another success booster to the Bachelor in Paradise wannabe's is creating an identity.
When you say you're a model...
When you say you're an actor...
When you say you're a fitness coach...
You say to the world, "This is who I am." And with that public statement, you become accountable, and the pressure's on. Therefore, the IG fitness coach posting content about her workout is partly for you, and probably mostly for her.
She's creating an identity around who she wants to become or maintain.
It's the same principle as the "Build in Public" movement.
Whenever you post your latest update to a product you're building, or write a Twitter thread about your latest insights - you are implicitly announcing to the world...
"THIS IS WHO I AM (or at least want to be)."
And the beauty of shouting out into the world is that some folks will shout back...
🛣️ Wanna go far? Go together.
It's easy to scoff at the Bachelorette Bros squeezing each other's biceps, "Oooh, looking good, buddy."
But what your cynicism filters out is that they are building a stronger community. Much like the pressure of trying to keep a job, trying to thrive in a community holds us to a standard. We found a group that has the same aspirations, and together we want to get as far as we can.
So, finding a community, a friends group can add some positive stress (eustress) that will reinforce your habits, and keep you coming back week after week.
And join the group for selfish reasons. Aim to keep yourself firing on all cylinders.
Jim Rohn says this about keeping friends accountable…
"I'll take care of me for you - if you'll please take care of you for me."
You can do anything, go farther, build stronger creative habits if you do this...
Make your habit your new job. Your part-time 20-hours starts today.
Become your habit. I am a writer. I am a filmmaker.
Shout at the world, become accountable, find a lifting partner.
Cheers,
Jordan P. Anderson
