Making Commercials: The Idea Phase

Making commercials is a fast-paced, goal-oriented video project that allows you to get deep into the filmmaking process without the years of commitment.

As a young and aspiring cinematographer, this is fertile ground to develop your skills, if you eventually want to get into the cinema world.

Let's get into the idea phase.

Coming up with ideas for commercials is just like coming up with ideas for films, products, songs, you name it. It takes time and commitment.

Time to put on your marketing hat. For your commercial, you have to figure out where you're going to tell the story and to whom you're going to tell the story.

Is this a Facebook campaign or is it going to television? Are we selling to teenage girls or middle-age men? All these factors come into play.

My Filmmaking Philosophy-

My Life Story (sort of)-

I can remember picking up my family's video camera as a teenager and being enthralled that I could make an impact in someone's life. The filmmaking process is complex but at the heart of it simple: tell a compelling story.

What resonates the hardest is visual storytelling. The ability to create an emotion or convey an idea through an image is what drives my career as a filmmaker. My marathon mentality is focused on becoming the best cinematographer possible.
